Spring Break: Puerto Rico

The week went by so fast. We had a good time, leaving was very hard. My mom doesn't want to do much. She wants to be at home most of the time. We took her to the "plaza" (downtown) where we can sit on the benches and enjoy the view and have some ice cream. We took her to the pier where she could eat some typical Puertorican food and again sit and enjoy the ocean view. She had complained that she didn't have anything to wear so we took her to the mall, we had to borrow a wheelchair because it is hard for her to walk that much, and bought her new clothes. It was hard to see her though, she has lost a bit of weight and has aged a bit since I last saw her. She doesn't have the energy to clean the house like she always did. Bronson and I helped sweep and mop. I cleaned the kitchen and Bronson took a whole day and cleaned the yard. The yard looked really good when he finished. Leaving was very difficult. On Friday while we were in San Juan my brother called and said my mom needed to go to the hospital. My brother and I took her to the hospital. When the nurse came to draw blood it was very painful for her because they can only do it on the right arm. Her right arm is already very bruised and it hurts a lot. Her left arm is permanently swollen because they were not supposed to draw blood from it and they did. My mom had a mastectomy on the left breast and because of that they can't draw blood from that side, about two months ago in the hospital she did not tell them (she forgets things) and they did, leaving it swollen. It was hard to hear her cry in pain when they pricked her, she looked very frail in the hospital bed. The whole week she kept asking me, "when are you leaving?" On Friday she asked me at around 7:00 PM (before the hospital called to say her room was ready) and I told her I was leaving that night, she then said she better say goodbye right then because she was going to bed. She did not seem sad or anything like that, she isn't really showing a whole lot of emotion, I am glad I did not want her sad. The hospital called not too long after she went to bed so I had to say goodbye again in the hospital, she was under the effect of sleeping medication so she just said goodbye. I on the other hand had to quickly go out of the room because I started to cry hard and did not want her to see me. It was sad to see her there, before the sleeping medicine worked she became anxious and just could not lay down. She gets really fidgety and can't calm down enough to sleep. I can't imagine having cancer and having to have transfusions all the time, knowing that it hurts and having a feeling of desperation and helplessness.

At the mall in San Juan called Plaza las Americas. My aunt Aida, my dad's sister and the only one of his siblings that is still living. She is 85 years old. My aunt and uncle have lunch there everyday and then go walking around the mall. They looked in pretty good health.

With my friend Mari. We grew up together in the same Ward in Ponce. She now lives in San Juan with her family. She took her lunch break and came to see me at the mall.

On the way back everyone was tired.

My whole life I had said that I would never drive in San Juan. I can't believe that I did it, but I don't want to do it again!!! They drive crazy there.

My new hair

I had the keratin done and I love my hair now, but at times I miss my crazy curls!! It doesn't take long to do my hair and I don't need the chi. Now I know what it feels like to have straight hair. My head feels lighter and not heavy like before. I can still make it wavy with mousse, but nothing like my curls before.

I am now getting ready to go to Puerto Rico. It is not going to be a fun vacation. My mom's health has declined. She doesn't get out of bed much and is in a lot of pain. She doesn't really talk to much on the phone and can't remember many things. I don't know what I am going to find when I get there. I am scared!!!

Where did the years go?

"Time passes quickly. Many parents say that it seems like yesterday that their children were born. Now those children are grown, perhaps with children of their own. Where did the years go? They ask. We cannot call back time that is past, we cannot stop time that now is, and we cannot experience the future in our present state. Time is a gift, a treasure not to be put aside for the future but to be used wisely in the present." President Thomas S. Monson, October 2000 General Conference.

I wish he could stay this way forever!!!!!
Last night I could not sleep and it was a good thing because as I was walking to the kitchen around midnight I heard what sounded like a barking dog. Conner was so sick, he was coughing and having trouble breathing. I had to take him to the ER where they gave him a breathing treatment and steroids to open his airways. We were in the hospital from 12:30 AM until 5:30 AM. I got home at 6:00 AM and slept for a couple of hours and then had to go to my doctors appointment at 11:00 which I could not cancel. Brittany was able to come and watch him for me. Conner had the croup which gets worse at night. He already had it 3 weeks ago but it wasn't as bad as last night, we just treated him at home last time. But last night was different he could not breathe it was sad!!
I got the keratin treatment done in my hair. It made my hair very soft. Now I can wash and let it dry and it looks awesome without spending too much time, in fact it only takes me like 5 minutes to do my hair now!!!! I will post pictures soon.

Spring, going for a walk and Brittany's birthday

I love spring season in Florida. The weather is perfect! I love to go for walks. Conner likes to ride his bike around the neighborhood. In the summer is just too hot during the day to go on walks so I take advantage of spring. I love how green the grass is and all the beautiful flowers in bloom. I watched Brinley so we all went for a walk. Unfortunately Brent is too busy at work and can't enjoy the great weather. Why is tax season in the spring!!! It should be in the winter when it is too cold to do anything outside.

Beautiful tree.

Parker was playing football with some friends at the park.

Brinley loves to play with Conner's old toys.

She is walking!

Brittany and Bronson bought this new carseat for her.

Happy Birthday Brittany!! She is turning 22 on March 9th, we celebrated it yesterday because Brent is going to Miami this week. I can't believe she is 22. Brent and I were 22 when we got married and it seems like it was yesterday.

I have my computer back!!!!

My computer is back and now I can finish working on my Relief Society meeting for next week. I am feeling much better. It is amazing to me how much we depend on computers. Just a few years ago I could do without it, but not now. Pretty much everything is done on the computer. Parker's Spanish textbook is on the computer so we weren't able to study over the weekend. His Geography teacher sends his homework by e-mail and we have to print it. The best way to contact the kids' teachers is through e-mail. We love to skype with Ashley and James and to see how big Ronan is getting. It's also fun to skype with grandma and grandpa Hanson in Utah so we can keep in touch with them. I could go on and on with the list. Computers are truly a blessing. I am sure glad to have my computer back.

I am not complaining I am just venting!!!!

I really dislike tax season!!!!!! I am not complaining I am just saying. I don't get to see Brent very much these days. This past Saturday he spent the whole entire day moving to a "temporary office" until his office is finished and then he has to move AGAIN. It has been so stressful around here. With my new calling (which I really like) I jokingly say "my life belongs to the Windermere Ward Relief Society now" , I am so BUSY these days. Meetings and planning stuff and visiting sisters etc. etc. Today I wasn't able to practice piano (which calms me down). Conner went to sleep already so I can't practice because obviously the piano will wake him up. My piano teacher says she can tell when I play that I am uptight because my shoulders are up and tense. My house is a disaster which is driving me crazy and I am somehow still trying to go to my Zumba classes during the week. I am planning my very first additional Relief Society meeting, we don't have a sister called right now to coordinate these meetings so I am in charge of it and I have never done it and it is in 2 WEEKS. Thank goodness for the internet, I got all my ideas from it. But then my stupid computer got a virus on Friday, Brent sent me his laptop from the office with Brittany on Saturday so I could get stuff done and his laptop did not work. It actually stopped working after Brittany got all her homework done and I went to use it Saturday afternoon. The highlight of my weekend was that I got to watch Brinley while Bronson was helping Brent and Brittany was doing her homework. She is now walking and she is so cute and fun. She loves Conner's little tykes car and she learned how to open the door and get in and out of the car. That is all she did the whole time I watched her.
