My aunt Rosael's funeral.

My aunt Rosael fell in the bathroom in January 2024. She broke her clavicle and from then on couldn't walk and spent the rest two months in bed until she passed away in March 26th 2024. My cousin Kiki's wife Marleni sent me a couple of videos that showed my aunt was going to pass away soon. She was gasping for air and they had to bring an oxygen tank to help her breath. That was on Monday evening so I was going to see her on Tuesday afternoon but she died very early Tuesday morning. I had the privilege of helping dress her in her temple clothing. Yesterday, Saturday, was her funeral and I spoke. The funeral was in Spanish at the Bumby chapel here in Orlando. She will be cremated and taken to Ponce, Puerto Rico to bury her. Here is my talk:

Today is the 50th anniversary of my family's baptism into The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints

On March 23, 1974 along with my parents and my brother, I was baptized into the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Puerto Rico. Today is the 50th anniversary of that beautiful day. Although I was 8, I remember a little bit about that day. There were no chapels in my town so we were baptized in a pool at a country club. We were allowed to use the pool but we had to be there early at 6 in the morning before the club members got there to use the facilities. Because it was March, it was a little cold for me that morning. But that didn’t stop us and we were baptized. That day I received the wonderful gift of the Holy Ghost. In 2 Nephi chapter 33 verse 1 it says: For when a man speaketh by the power of the Holy Ghost the power of the Holy Ghost carrieth it unto the hearts of the children of men. I am grateful to the missionaries who taught my family and for my parents who felt the influence of the Holy Ghost and believed that the things they were taught were true.

In 2 Nephi chapter 32 verse 5 it says: For behold, again I say unto you that if ye will enter in by the way, and receive the Holy Ghost, it will show unto you all the things what ye should do.

Right after I was baptized I didn’t understand what the Holy Ghost really was but Heavenly Father has taught me truth line by line and precept upon precept, here a little and there a little and has blessed me every time I am obedient and hearken to  the counsel of the Holy Ghost. Heavenly Father hasn’t given me a big miraculous experience or vision but rather I have felt and heard the whispering of the still small voice of the Holy Ghost.

I remember the very first time I heard the Holy Ghost’s voice, although it may seem small to some this is a most sacred experience to me. I was a child and didn’t really recognize it as the Holy Ghost at the time, that happened later when the experience came to my remembrance and then I recognized it as the Holy Ghost speaking to me and because of that experience I started to recognize how Heavenly Father communicates with me through the Holy Ghost. I remember that day, I was about 9 years old. I was in third grade and in those days we didn’t have substitute teachers so when your teacher wasn’t there they would send the class home. I was sent home. My school was in my grandma’s neighborhood and she took care of me while my parents were at work. I walked to her house and found the house unlocked but she wasn’t there which was not normal. Across the street from her house there was a small store that a neighbor had in his garage. Sometimes I would go there with my brother to buy candy so I figured she probably was there. I stood on the sidewalk but was afraid to cross the street by myself because it was a busy street.  As I was standing there I heard a voice say to me “ora” which in English means “pray”. I said a prayer in my head but I think asked Heavenly Father that  I would be able to cross the street and find my grandma. When I opened my eyes I could not believe what I was seeing. I looked over to my right and there I saw two missionaries on their bikes riding towards me. They recognized me and stopped. They asked me what I was doing and I told them my dilemma and they helped me cross the street and yes my grandma was at the store. That experience helped me learn that Heavenly Father is aware of me and of my needs even if they are a small little problem for a small child.

About a couple of years later I was traveling down a windy mountain road with my uncle who was driving, my aunt sitting by him in the front, in the back were my little cousin, my grandmother and myself. It was raining and I was worried about the car sliding since next to us was a drop with the river named Rio Loco which means crazy river. I had a thought that I should ask my grandma to say a prayer. Everyone in my family knew that my grandma had a lot of faith in prayers. I asked to say a prayer and she immediately started to pray. When she said Amen the car started to slide, it made complete U and when the car stopped we were facing the traffic coming in the opposite direction we were traveling. We were safe and everyone stopped so that we could turn around and continue our direction. I was scared but thankful that Heavenly Father answered our prayer and kept us safe. I will never forget those two experiences I had as a child. I often think of them as a reminder of how the Holy Ghost helps us in our lives.

In 2 Nephi Chapter 32 verse 5 it says: For behold, again I say unto you that if ye will enter in by the way, and receive the Holy Ghost, it will show unto you all things what ye should do. I know this to be true. I know the Holy Ghost will teach us truths and direct us in the way that we should go when we humble ourselves and are obedient to the covenants that we have made with Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ.

President Joseph F. Smith said: “When I as a boy first started out in the ministry, I would frequently go out and ask the Lord to show me some marvelous thing, in order that I might receive a testimony. But the Lord withheld marvels from me, and showed me the truth, line upon line, precept upon precept, here a little and there a little, until he made me to know the truth from the crown of my head to the soles of my feet, and until doubt and fear had been absolutely purged from me. He did not have to send an angel from the heavens to do this, nor did he have to speak with the trump of an archangel. By the whisperings of the still small voice of the Spirit of the living God, he gave to me the testimony I possess. And by this principle and power he will give to all the children of men a knowledge of the truth that will stay with them, and it will make them to know the truth, as God knows it, and to do the will of the Father as Christ does it. And no amount of marvelous manifestations will ever accomplish this. It is obedience, humility, and submission to the requirements of heaven and to the order established in the kingdom of God upon the earth, that will establish men in the truth”

As I have grown older I have learned to recognize how the Holy Ghost speaks to me. I am still working on being more attentive and doing the things that I am asked to do. One morning I woke up thinking about the sisters I am assigned to minister. I set the thought aside and told myself I would reach out to them. That afternoon I still had not reached out and I received a text from our Ward Relief Society Secretary asking me how my sisters were doing and if they needed anything. That text reminded me to reach out to them so I did. I was able to get a hold of both sisters. I texted back to the secretary and thanked her for reminding me to do it, that I had thought about them that morning but had forgotten.

President Nelson said: “Follow the example of the Prophet Joseph. Find a quiet place where you can regularly go. Humble yourself before God. Pour out your heart to your Heavenly Father. Turn to Him for answers and for comfort.

Pray in the name of Jesus Christ about your concerns, your fears, your weaknesses—yes, the very longings of your heart. And then listen! Write the thoughts that come to your mind. Record your feelings and follow through with actions that you are prompted to take. As you repeat this process day after day, month after month, year after year, you will “grow into the principle of revelation.” “Our Savior and Redeemer, Jesus Christ, will perform some of His mightiest works between now and when He comes again. We will see miraculous indications that God the Father and His Son, Jesus Christ, preside over this Church in majesty and glory. But in coming days, it will not be possible to survive spiritually without the guiding, directing, comforting, and constant influence of the Holy Ghost.

As followers of Jesus Christ the most important truth that the Holy Ghost will reveal to us is, that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the living God. We don’t have to wonder what is true, or whom we can safely trust. Through personal revelation we can receive our own witness of the truthfulness of the gospel, that this is the Lord’s church and no one can ever take away a witness borne to our heart and mind about what is true.

March 18th, 2024 - 30th Email - We are so back

Hey

So we had transfers last week which was pretty crazy
Like literally so much happened last week
We had a billion lessons so that was fun
And we also deep cleaned our apartment
It was a really busy week overall and also we put some bikes in the shop cuz they were brokey fr
So everything about transfers
Elder Allen left :( to hesperia up in the high desert
My companion is elder jones and he is epic and from arizona my first companion from not utah, he has family from spain so that's cool and also he's only one transfer after me
We don't have bikes anymore (w) we got a rav4
Like 20 missionaries finished their mission last transfer and only 5 came in so a lot of areas were closed and that's probably why they had enough cars for us to have one
The work is gonna go crazy fr
Elder Pittman lives in our apartment too lol we arent companions but he's zone leader
And also I'm district leader over an all spanish district and I'm doing a baptismal interview on wednesday
So this'll be fun
I'm just glad I'm in a car before it gets to 100 degrees in a couple weeks but I'll miss the exercise too
Also we went hiking and bowling today
And Sunday was stake conference which was epic and we got a new stake president since our old one is going to Boston on a mission as president
We bible bashed with a flat earther last night
What was super cool was at transfers I actually knew people and was able to say hi to a lot of people
It was funny because elder arvidson and I had to go up for transfers even though we weren't leaving Indio so we were confused, people thought I was leaving and I was like "nah I don't know why I'm here" but it was cuz I had to drive the car
Also I have the largest district in the mission (six companionships)

Ok that's everything bye

Blessings

Back on the 14th of February, I wrote on my blog about how Heavenly Father answered my prayer and helped me with my anxiety about Conner being on a bike in Indio during this transfer.  Heavenly Father has continued to bless me and I have felt peace when going to sleep at night. There was a second time that I was anxious and again I was reminded to read his patriarchal blessing which I did and brought me comfort. I have noticed I am more at peace and calmer at night. I still find myself falling asleep late, 12:30 am because that is 9:30 pm California time and that is when Conner gets home and I feel better and can fall asleep. I decided to do this so that I can be more in control of my feelings if that makes sense, because I know he is home and he is safe.

On Sunday March 3rd Conner, his companion and the two other missionaries that live in his apartment went to dinner at my friend Dioni Morales Rodriguez'  house. I am so glad he was able to go to her house. Conner said he felt at home and was happy to be there.

On Saturday March 9th I had a missed call and it was from brother Verduzco in Conner's ward. He said in his message that Conner was at his house for dinner. Brother Verduzco had gone out with Conner and his companion to teach a lesson and because they didn't have a dinner appointment he invited them over. He told us thank you for our son, for serving a mission and asked me to return his call. I saw the message 15 minutes after the call. I call him right back and he was funny talking about how Conner doesn't like to eat many things lol so I told him he liked hamburgers and brother Verduzco said that is what Conner said haha. It was a nice call and I heard Conner in the background. Again, Heavenly Father helping me to feel less anxious. I slept good that night.

On Sunday March 10th there was a baptism in Conner's zone and Conner and his companion went to it. It was for the Spanish branch in Borego Springs. My friend Carmen Quirindongo and her husband Jody Garcia, who is the branch president were there. They were happy to finally meet Conner. Carmen and I grew up in Ponce and were in the same ward. Her husband Jody served his mission in Puerto Rico and served in Ponce. I still remember him when he served in Ponce many years ago. He told Conner that he remembers going to dinner at my house when I was 12 years old.

I am so grateful for these experiences where God it teaching me to trust in Him and have faith that Conner will be fine and that God is taking care of him.

March 11th, 2024 - 29th Email - The nights are pleasant now

 Hey hey hey

This week was really long not gonna lie but we work hard
We had like 20 lessons this week and we had like 7 friends set up to come to church and none came but but but we got someone on date for baptism on the 31st so that's epic
I realize that's easter but we'll make it work
Also funny story
We were at a friend's house giving a lesson and a random totally drunk guy walked up to their door and wouldn't leave and was a litte aggressive so we ended up calling the police
That was a first
The night weather is so good but because of daylight savings we don't work as long in the night, probably safer but it's stil hot
Also we had dinner at a family on Sunday where this guy from New Zealand was there and he was super cool to talk to ngl
And on Saturday we had a member come with us to a lesson and he proceeded to offer us dinner and accompany us (meaning drive us) to the rest of our lessons so we barely rode our bikes that day which was great
And we did exchanges with the zl's on friday and I was up in like palm desert area
It was funny because we ran into this guy who was a member but left after the church stopped boy scouts (which to me doesnt make sense but ok) and he was (probably illegally) breeding reptiles and was hoping to breed a "new breed" of lizard and then a cat killed the female after like three years before he saw results which is lowkey sad but at the same time it was probaby illegal
He had a cool albino snake though
Transfers are this week, nobody has any idea what's happening so we'll figure out friday
Something that's been cool is seeing how hard some people are struggling and just knowing how much the gospel simplifies your life and keeps you away from so much bad junk and so we don't have to deal with it, I'm really thankful for that

Ok Elder Hanson signing off

Honestly this week was totally packed we had so many lessons lol
We had a guy on date for baptism for last Sunday and it fell through :( because his family is going through a lot pray for him k
The weather this week was epic gaming fr it was so nice
Also ran into this dude who was like "nah I don't want to be preached to rn" but bro's wife gets out of their car and tells him to be nice lol and we found out she's a long lost member of the church who's been through a ton in her life and now we're all like best friends and we gave their family a book of mormon and we promised them their lives would improve (they don't speak spanish though and we really don't want to pass them off...)
Also found a kid who plays geometry dash and told him the name of my account to play my levels lol
For our pday activity we raced to see who could complete a puzzle faster and we totally won
Bike is getting easier every day I'm learning to enjoy it but it's boutta get really hot and I still miss my truck but we still work hard
Also we had dinner yesterday with a member in the ward who knew my parents since before they were married so that's cool

Ok bye

Singular picture, I scraped my foot really bad on this sand dune about a half hour ago
