First day in Sweden. We left Copenhagen this morning and drove to southern Sweden. We crossed the Oresund, the strait between Denmark and Sweden. We went through the underwater tunnel and then the rest of the way we went the bridge that connects the two countries. In Sweden we visited a few of the little towns that Brent’s ancestors lived in prior to their immigration to America. First we went to the town of Glemminge, where Karna Pahrsson Hansson was born (Brent’s 3rd great grandmother). We then went to Tosterup where Hakan Hansson (Brent’s 3rd great grandfather) was born and Karna and Hakan were married. We found the church that records say that Brent’s ancestors would have attended along with a picture of the Tosterup castle that is behind the church. This castle was built in the 15th century. We finished our visits for the day stopping in Tryde where Hakan and Karna lived when they met the missionaries and were baptized members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Two years after joining the church they immigrated to the United States and traveled across the plains in a pioneer handcart company. When they left Sweden Karna was pregnant with Brent’s second great grandfather, John Alfred Hanson. He was born during their trek west on the plains of Nebraska. We are grateful for their faith and endurance. It was a joy to be able to see where their journey started. Tonight we are staying in this beautiful hotel in Lund built in 1899.

Sweden Trip - Part 1 (Copenhagen June 21st)
Second day in Copenhagen-We walked a lot. The weather was perfect. We started by visiting the Church of our Lady (Copenhagen Cathedral) where the statue of Christ and the twelve apostles are. The statue of Christ has been replicated many times, one of them is in the Salt Lake City temple visitor center. We also walked down the pedestrian shopping street in the Center of town. Stroget is one of the longest pedestrian car free shopping streets in Europe. Then we walked to Nyhavn, a 17th century waterfront canal district in Copenhagen. We saw the beautiful colorful buildings that line the canal. We then walked to the Amalienborg Palace, the home of the Danish royal family. From there we walked to see the little mermaid statue. Tomorrow we drive to Sweden.
Sweden Trip - Part 1 (Copenhagen June 20th)
Copenhagen day 1- we also visited the Frederiksborg castle, built during the time of Christian IV (1588-1648) and restored after a fire in 1859. It is so beautiful! We ran into some LDS missionaries at the castle. They were enjoying their day off (called P-day) sight seeing. We also stopped to take a few pictures of the LDS temple here near Copenhagen.
