Conner's 9th birthday

On his way to school today.

I brought cupcakes to school today to celebrate.

With Mrs. Fetters, his third grade teacher.

He loved the t-shirt Parker gave him.

Happy Birthday!

Conner is loving, sweet, helpful, he likes to make his parents happy, he loves his brother Parker and his sisters very much but especially his nephew Ronan and his nieces, Brinley, Reagan and Nora.  He is smart and funny.  He loves the Wii and his 3DS.  He loves puzzles and reading Big Nate books and Captain underpants books and Magic Tree house.  He loves going to school and playing with his friends from church, James, Daniel and Anthony. He loves to sing and draw.  He doesn't like to argue, he doesn't really get mad very often.  Most of the time he is happy! We love you Conner!!!

Casting for a Walmart commercial

Yesterday I got a text late in the afternoon from my friend Lily. She told me that I needed to call this casting agency because they were looking for Hispanic moms to shoot a commercial for Walmart. She also said to tell all my friends.  So, I texted Natty and Johanna and they wanted to do it.  We got a call back from the casting agency right away and an appointment made for the next morning, so today.  We first had to answer some questions on an e-mail and send two pictures with that e-mail.  So we went today and filled out a form and then they had us come in the room one at a time.  They asked us the same questions and we had to answer them in front of the camera.  They will call us if we are selected.  If we are selected we get $250 of groceries at Walmart and we get to shoot the commercial.  They shoot the commercial every Tuesday.  We could get a call between now and six months from now.  We will see if I get picked for a Walmart commercial.  I love being in my 40s, I am doing things I never thought I would do.

Spiritual message

I was talking to my nephew, Gerard the other day and he mentioned that he was taking English classes from the Elders at church once a week.  He was telling me how the missionaries in his Ward are first cousins and they are missionary companions. I thought that was really cool. He then told me that they told him that when he (Gerard) gets married in the temple in Salt Lake City after his mission (Gerard is only 13), because "he will get married in the temple", the Elders said, that they will take him to meet their grandma, who is Sister Mary Ellen Smoot!! Mary Ellen Smoot was General Relief Society president, from 1997 to 2002. You can read about her Here.  I was so excited because when we go do the training of the Relief Society presidencies in the Wards in our Stake, I end with a spiritual message from an experience from the life of Mary Ellen Smoot, so imagine my surprise when I found out her grandsons are serving in my old Ward.  Well, I told my nephew and a week later he called me because Elder Smoot and his cousin (I don't remember his last name) were at my parent's house, where my brother now lives.  He put Elder Smoot on the phone so that I would tell him the story I share in my message.  He was so excited that he told me he was going to tell his grandma about me.  That made so happy.

Here is the message that I share.

It was during a conversation with President Gordon B. Hinckley in April 1997 that Mary Ellen was called to be the General Relief Society President.  During her first year as President of the Relief Society, she traveled to 21 countries to meet with Relief Society sisters and attended a planning session for the World Congress on Families held in Rome.  As occasional self doubts arose, she reviewed the words of the late President J. Reuben Clark: "The task ahead of us is never as great as the power behind us."  When attempting to share these words with President Hinckley, she inadvertently said, "the task ahead of us is greater than the power behind us", she recalled. "We both had a good laugh."

I love this message because I love that these women are just like any of us. I have self doubts and feel very inadequate probably all the time. It is wonderful to know that Heavenly Father is there to help us when we feel that way.

Looking good!

The doctor did a great job on the stitches.  My finger looks great and the feeling is coming back. I can now feel my nail and I have about 80% of the feeling back on my finger.
